Go to any retail store and it’s clear that there’s a 4 gig nano shortage while there’s more than enough 2 gigs to go around. I’ve been searching locally and have been told by a Circuit City employee that there are manufacturing problems with the 4 gig and a Best Buy employee said that their order for the 4 gigs has been put on hold. Granted, they’re far from a reliable source of information, but there definitely haven’t been any 4 gigs showing up in stores for a couple weeks now. Any word from Apple on the subject?

I know you’ve just been dying to spend more money this season. And what could be a better investment than the world’s first tube-based iPod speaker system. Sold only at Hammacher Schlemmer, these Studio-Quality Triode-Tube iPod Speakers will only set you back a mere $4,000, but hey, you’ll also get a aluminum-encased amplifier housing four Class-A tubes. The company claims they are specially made for MP3 players because the speakers will smooth over distortions found in digital recordings as well as compensate and minimize the quality loss inherent in compressed audio. And that, my friend, will cost you 4000 big ones. You know what? I think I’ll take those crazy digital distortions anytime.

Dock your iPod and it can charge it, play back music through its 2.1 channel stereo system, or control the bass with precision. The iWoofer also adds FM radio to your iPod with channel memory and auto scanning. Here’s a hit-or-miss idea: Millenium Music wants to give you an iPod in exchange for your CDs. Yup. You can rip all your music, then sell the hard copy in favor of an iPod. Just stop by or mail in your CDs to Millenium and as long as they’re not scratched to hell or missing anything for the most part, you can trade up to an iPod. I mean, sure, you paid a lot of money for the CDs in the first place, but get over it and you’ll be fine. Here’s how it works:
45 CDs = 512 MB iPod Shuffle
65 CDs = 1 GB iPod Shuffle
85 CDs = 2 GB iPod Nano
110 CDs = 4 GB Nano
130 CDs = 30 GB iPod
175 CDs = 60 GB iPod
65 CDs for a 1GB iPod shuffle seems like a lot to me. I mean, say you went to your local CD store and traded in 65 CDs at an average of $3 a CD. That’s $195. Enough for a 1GB shuffle and some accessories and music from iTunes. Ultimately it depends on you and your desire to go digital, giving up your CDs in the bargain. So think about it.

Chinese OEM company EC21 is featuring its new iPod nano knockoff to hopefully confuse people worldwide. It shares almost identical physical measurements with the nano, a 1.5-inch color OLED screen, FM-tune, voice recorder, photo viewer and even has a Tetris game! Wowee! This device supports WMA, MP3 and AMV video. There’s no official word yet on how much memory this will hold, but we highly doubt it will beat out the nano’s bang for the buck.

ABT is busting out a new version of their iJet wireless remote for iPods, and this one packs in a screen for viewing whatever you're skipping around to. Hopefully this newfound track selection knowledge will protect your party from a sad musical death, and the iJet Two-Way's 150-foot range might let you grab some chips in the process. Though unfortunately the 'Pod inspired stylings don't quite lend themselves to casual flashings, so you'll have to ask yourself if the added convenience is really worth risking your cred over.

It's been quite some time since the iPod battery class-action lawsuit was brought to the attention of the San Mateo County court system, but the wait is finally over. Apparently the appeals have ended, and according to the website, "the Settlement is now Final" for 1, 2, and 3G iPod users to get their due. However, none of this is going to help you much if you had a 1G or 2G iPod and haven't already submitted your claim, being that even though the claims appeal process was still raging at the time, your deadline was September 30th. Still, you have up to two years to collect your claim on a 3G iPod, which is either a replacement battery or iPod (though we wouldn't get our hopes up on the latter), or a $50 Apple store credit.

Hi, just registered in the hope that somebody can help,
Q. Is it possible to delete tracks stored in my computer in itunes library without them being erased from my ipod? Please dont laugh as i am very new to all of this. My Pc is windows based and is telling me its running out of space. If this can be done it would be great if somebody could post some real fool-proof instructions (and i do mean fool-proof, as in the cat sat on the mat kind of fool-proof)
Kind regards est1882

Nokia has essentially ditched the N-Gage hardware project, though is planning to keep the brand and platform for use in a range of Smartphones, the Finnish cellular giant explained today in a press release.
The N-Gage QD and original 'cheese sandwich' models have been dropped, faced with consumer apathy, critical mockery and publisher disinterest, though a new development kit has been created – with Nokia showing its enhanced wares to its development partners in Helsinki and Vancouver earlier this month. It is believed that the N-Gage brand will be maintained, though incorporated as an addition or value-add to future Smartphones carrying the Nokia insignia.
The new middleware promises ease of development for a new phase in Nokia mobile gaming, with the firm hinting that it intends to drop more 'traditional' gaming in favour of implementing a range of massively multiplayer minigames and of course, online RPGs. As the N-Gage simply couldn't compete with other machines on the market, (who would buy SSX for a phone with framerate issues when they could spend the same amount on another version?) the new plan, on the surface, is the most interesting thing Nokia has attempted to do since the launch of its N-Gage and the conference it hosted in Los Angeles which saw some staff from a certain online publication, ahem, hijack a double-decker bus for a joyride up the freeway.
We actually expect the revised Nokia stance to be something of a success, with positive feedback gathered from workshops it hosted to outline the functionality of its new middleware. The fact that the concept seeks to ditch direct competition with other platforms and become self-pollinating, combined with Nokia's massive, if shrinking, marketshare of the global cellular industry is a potentially potent mix.
Of course the whole thing could be doomed, as Nintendo is poised to release what has been described to us as a 'cell phone-inspired' redesigned DS complete with voice over IP capabilities, but you didn't hear that from us. Just bookmark this page and head back mid-next year as the new DS and its endless free voice-talk is announced (and this story ignored by our usual naysayers).
You can call it VoIPton.

Hauppauge Computer Works, a division of Hauppauge Digital Inc, today announced the release of its new "Wing" software, enabling consumers to record TV shows on a personal computer for playback on the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP), Apple video iPod, and other portable video players. Wing can also be used to convert existing TV recordings to the PSP and iPod format.
Wing is sold as a $24.95 accessory to Hauppauge's PC-based WinTV-PVR personal video recorders. Live TV shows can be recorded with a single click and played on a PC or TV set as well as a portable video player. Wing records in H.264, MPEG-4 and Divx formats, and also will record directly to a recordable DVD disk.
The Wing application comes with three components: a plug-in for the popular TitanTV internet based electronic program guide for automatic recording of TV shows, a plug-in for Hauppauge's WinTV Scheduler for manual TV record scheduling, and an off-line recorder which will turn MPEG-2 videos into any of the formats supported by Wing.
"The emergence of portable video players like the Sony PSP and video iPod has created a demand for an easy solution for recording live TV shows for playback on these devices," said Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge President. "WinTV-PVR's have been very popular for recording TV on PC's, and Wing will be an invaluable tool for the many WinTV-PVR users who also have a portable video player."
Hauppage's Eskape Labs division is also developing a version of Wing for the Apple Mac using the myTV.PVR, the Eskape Labs Mac-based personal video recorder. That product will be released in early 2006.
Wing is available directly from Hauppauge at: www.hauppauge.com/wing

Evolution of N-Gage platform revealed to first party developers
Nokia has demonstrated its next-generation mobile games development tools, which were originally announced at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo in May, to first party developers.
During the inaugural next generation mobile gaming workshops in Helsinki at the beginning of December, sixteen first party developers were invited to experience and discuss first hand the evolution of the N-Gage platform. The two day workshops gave developers a chance to engage with the new tools, discussing directly with Nokia any issues relating to game design, middleware, tools, certification, software developer support, hardware and the continuation of the acclaimed connected gaming experience through the N-Gage Arena.
Kamar Shah, head of industry marketing, games at Nokia, commented: "Working with first party developers at each workshop is a crucial initial step to introduce the new end-to-end gaming platform. Our first party developers have already worked on the N-Gage platform and know how to push the boundaries of mobile gaming to ensure that our next generation mobile gaming platform offers a plethora of rich, immersive mobile gaming experiences from launch."
The Finnish giant recently admitted that its N-Gage handheld gaming device had failed to meet the company's performance and sales targets, in spite of continued support from Nokia and its partners, and the recent launch of a new line of accessories and exclusive gaming content for the device.
Plans to implement the N-Gage gaming technology in a much wider range of series 60 mobile handsets have long been rumoured, though Nokia had so far declined to reveal any concrete details for the roll out of the new development platform.
Focusing on advanced 3D gaming compatible with a broad range of handsets, Nokia hopes to recapture a potentially enormous consumer market by removing the limitations imposed by the single N-Gage deck. Developers can incorporate connected gaming features to tap into the rapidly expanding mobile gaming community, and offer user-friendly search, purchase and installation of high-quality games across a selection of compatible devices.
Laszlo Molnar, designer and project manager, Bonus.com, was present at the event, stating: "The workshop has been a great forum for all the developers to ask some straight questions and receive straight answers. Nokia has a very visible commitment to the mobile games industry, and provides confidence to us games developers for the next generation gaming platform."
Nokia has confirmed that it will continue to produce the beleaguered N-Gage game deck, primarily for the Chinese and Indian markets. New, exclusive game content will continue to be developed, licensed and published for the device.
A further development tool workshop event is planned as part of the 2006 Game Developers conference in San Jose, California.

Lik Sang have emailed me to say that for all DCEmu Network Visitors they have a code that gives you $5 off a purchase of $40 (isn't valid on consoles, or software which already has the free shipping worldwide offer), which is valid for 60 days starting today. It's basically very simple to use, just enter this code at the end of the checkout process: LS-917B8DF537
Might be handy if you were thinking of getting something soon from Lik Sang, money off is always a good thing

High street retailer Virgin Megastores has told GamesIndustry.biz that the Gizmondo isn't going to outperform the Xbox and PS2 in the console charts this Christmas after all.
"I'm afraid the previous poll has been taken slightly out of context and is a result of uncertainty around several new product launches," Virgin Megastores' head of PR, events and local marketing, Paul Johnson, told GI.biz.
"Whilst I can't go into specifics, I think it's safe to say that the big three's consoles have outperformed Gizmondo."
Johnson's comments come after Virgin issued a statement which suggested that the Gizmondo would be the fifth best-selling console this Christmas, following the Xbox 360, DS, PSP and Game Boy Micro. Neither PS2 nor the current-gen Xbox were mentioned.
But now Virgin is hoping to clear up any confusion by stating that the Gizmondo isn't necessarily in for a bumper Christmas after all.
"We've had quite a reaction but hopefully this will make more sense to all concerned," Johnson said.

Ok I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with running any homebrew software on windows based cell phones or pda's etc? I'm going to be purchasing a new cell phone soon and I was thinking of a Palm Treo 700w when they come out. I'm just wondering if any emulators or such have been made for or ran on Windows Mobile devices. I would love to carry over some of my emulators and such to my phone also if possible.

from GI.Biz
Virgin Megastores has predicted that handhelds will outsell current generation consoles this Christmas - and that includes Tiger Telematics' beleagured Gizmondo.
The retailer says that the Xbox 360 is likely to be the best-selling console this festive season, followed by the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP and Game Boy Micro - with the Gizmondo in fifth place.
Neither the current generation Xbox or PlayStation 2 were mentioned in Virgin's forecast, however. Which may seem odd, since Sony recently announced that it has now shipped 100 million PS2s worldwide, shifting nearly 50,000 units just last week.
The Gizmondo, on the other hand, has not fared so well - only 5000 units were sold in the three months following launch.
But perhaps sales have picked up since. A Virgin spokesperson told our sister site, Eurogamer, that the predictions were made "based on sales at the time" - which would suggest Gizmondo has been outselling Xbox and PS2 in Virgin Megastores branches recently.
