The iPhone Dev Team has been calling their AnySim iPhone unlock tool "open source" from the start, but they've finally made good on their promise and posted the code on Google Code. Have at it, hackers -- not being able to unlock new 1.1.2 iPhones is surely putting a damper on someone's holiday season.

Tommy & Mats released their new application MMS today.
Here are the release notes:
Tada! We are ready to release our native MMS application for the iPhone! Note, this is a v0.1 release that is not feature complete! Specifically, it is NOT possible to receive MMSs yet.
Before you can send any MMSs you must configure your mmsc server and maybe a proxy server in the MMS's Settings panel. The settings are available from your operator. For example, my configuration settings are:
mmsc: mmsc.tele2.se
proxy: 130.244.202.30:8080
but you must use your operator's settings.
Note, to send MMSs you must be communicating over EDGE/GPRS. In other words, if you are using WiFi you must disable that service.
As stated before, this first release is pretty rough and can only send MMSs. But we will develop it further, making the GUI a bit more polished and add the capability to receive MMSs. You can support our development efforts by making a small donation.
We will make this release available via Installer but you can download the files now from here. Unzip, copy files to /Applications/MMS.app/ and chmod +x mms.
Have fun!

It would be no understatement to say that Star Wars is one of the most loved franchises on the planet. Everyone working on the N-Gage project is a huge fan of the Star Wars universe, so we were absolutely thrilled when we heard that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed™ was coming to the N-Gage platform.
In the game, you'll play as Darth Vader's apprentice during the Clone Wars, a period of Star Wars history that takes place between Episodes III and IV.
To learn more, particularly about the N-Gage version, we spoke with Haden Blackman, Project Lead, LucasArts, and Henri Roth, Creative Director of Universomo, the development studio tasked with creating the mobile version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
FORCE UNLEASHED QUESTIONS
N-Gage.com: In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the player takes on the role of an apprentice to Darth Vader. Why is he called just 'the secret apprentice'? Is his actual name revealed during the game?
Blackman: He’s a “secret apprentice” because Darth Vader is training him in complete isolation to one day help him overthrow the Emperor. No one can know that the Apprentice exists -- if the Emperor discovered his existence, he would kill both Vader and the Apprentice.
What is the Secret Apprentice's mission? What is he trying to do?
Blackman: Early on, the Apprentice is aiding Vader on his quest to purge the galaxy of the remaining Jedi. But, he’s really being trained to one day stand beside Vader against the Emperor. However, the story goes through several twists and turns, so the Apprentice’s goals at the end of the game are not necessarily the same as they are at the beginning.
What is Emperor Palpatine's Order 66 and how does that affect the game?
Blackman: Order 66 was the order Palpatine issued to wipe out the Jedi in Episode III. Since that time, the Jedi have been on the run or in hiding. It’s part of Darth Vader’s job to hunt down any of these survivors.

Just under a fortnight ago, we found that the audio input pins on the iPod touch were indeed active and able to record audio. Now, a modder has constructed a smallish dock appendage that plugs directly into the touch and enables you to input audio. Apparently, the gizmo sports a built-in microphone and pre-amp, which could theoretically be used in VoIP applications or for recording simple voice notes. It seems as though the creator is offering these up to anyone interested, but you'll have to drop him an email to find out how much such an accessory will run you.

MNPlight aims at getting rid of the need for a computer with iTunes. It runs on your iPhone, and is able to modify the iPhone calendar, address book and iPod databases.
MNPlight can be of particular interest for Linux users who don't have iTunes, but it can also be used by other users when they want to update their iPhone data when they are away from their iTunes computer.
If you keep using iTunes, you may experiment problems with the Calendar and the Address Book since modifications done on your iPhone won't be seen by iTunes.
Changes:
Calendar should support timezones better
Bug fixes:
Import: /var/root/Library/MNPlight/downloads/ directory created if non-existing.
Repository link fixed

I can really use about 5 or 6 custom controller overlays to include in the upcoming Installer.app release.
For those who make an overlay, please upload it in the forums here:

Heres the awesome press release:
Nokia, THQ Wireless, Lucasfilm, and LucasArts today revealed that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is coming to N-Gage, Nokia's next generation mobile gaming platform in 2008.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game's expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
The mobile version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is in development by THQ's Finland-based studio, Universomo. Using Cell Weaver(TM) technology, the game lets the player harness the Force while assisting Darth Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Mobile game provides players with unique community features, including tournaments, score uploads and downloadable content, through N-Gage Arena services.
"We're proud to be able to deliver the next chapter in the Star Wars saga on the N-Gage platform," said Gregg Sauter, Director, Publishing, Nokia. "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Mobile game will take advantage of the N-Gage platform's robust native development environment to provide the ultimate mobile gaming experience, including powerful graphics, connectivity and community elements."
"THQ Wireless is dedicated to creating an awesome mobile Star Wars experience that delivers on the concept of unleashing the Force. "The launch of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be a major entertainment event in 2008, and bringing the game to the N-Gage mobile gaming platform is a big part of that because it means that millions of people around the world will be able to access the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed world right in the palm of their hand," said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing.

Surprise! The German courts have reversed the November decision and now say that T-Mobile has the right to sell the iPhone exclusively in Germany. As a result, the injunction granted to Vodafone has been dismissed. T-Mobile still has the right to seek damages. Ah well, there are still unlocked iPhones in France if anyone's looking.

iPodtouchfans.com forum member Virtualball has compiled a version of Pyro Sand for the iPod Touch/iPhone. The game involves four different particles falling from the top of the screen, which all look and move similar to sand. The particles resemble sand, water, salt, and oil in color. Along with these four, additional elements can be placed on the screen with your finger by choosing the colored icons below, some that are solid and stationary instead of flowing. By mixing the different elements together, many colorful designs, complex structures, and systems can be created.
