The household name among bloggers everywhere Wordpress is polishing up their next update to their iPhone application with quite a few new features and they need your help. Before they push the update through the AppStore they would like to make sure it is bug free and working great for wordpress users.
The new features include:
Landscape mode with the extra wide keyboard
Link creation help
Support for editing and creating Pages
Comment moderation
Asynchronous publishing
Photo resizing options
If you want to help test the app and hurry the update towards the appstore you'll need the iPhone simulator bundled with the SDK and a copy of their app to run in the simulator. If you find any bugs Wordpress asks that you tell them by submitting a ticket.

iPhoneHellas is claiming to have confirmed from a credible source that iPhone OS v2.2 will be released this November 21st, although they say they cannot identify who their reliable source is. Some expert sites say that iPhoneHellas has made accurate predictions from credible sources in the past, others are unsure because they have not had experience with iPhoneHellas.
Anyway, here’s how the rumor goes;
First off, the supposed reliable source has indicated that the iPhone firmware v2.2 will NOT be available to Greek keyboard or Greek menu.
Also rumored, according to iPhoneHellas,
“- New look for the Safari with the Google search bar now occupying its own space on the title bar
- Toggle On / Off to disable the auto-correction
- 461 Japanese emoji icons
- Support for new languages.
- Line-in audio is activated and can be used through the headphone jack
- Google Street View, Google Transit information

How much will the iPhone cost in 2009? If the latest rumor is true you'll be able to grab a nice shiny iPhone 3g for the ultra low price of $149 while shopping for bulk quantities of every day items at your local CostCo. The unsubstantiated rumor reports that as soon as January CostCo will be slinging these iPhone ultra cheap at their stores littered across the country.
$149 seems a little bit cheap and if the rumor is true you might think that there must be some sort of awful catch like a contract for life or only when you buy $4,000 of groceries or some other ridiculous requirement. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor were true and there was no catch other than the 2 year contract you already have to sign with AT&T. CostCo iPhone for $149 would fit in perfectly with Apple's schemes to put a iPhone in every house in America.

T-mobile's G1 has been given the teardown treatment again by the guys at iSuppli, and their official estimate of its materials price is $143.89. The most costly part inside is the dual-ARM processor baseband at $28.49, followed by the display at $19.67 and the 3-megapixel cam at $12.13. Obviously this doesn't include external costs such as hardware and software development, packaging and the like, but it gives an interesting insight into the G1. And, even more interestingly, it's cheaper than it's competitor, the iPhone 3G: this runs in at $174.33.

I spent a chunk of the weekend picking through the 1,500 plus iPhone games out currently, as I started pulling together a gift guide for the iPhone. As you can imagine it's quite a challenge to try and find a handful of gems among all of those games. Sure a bunch are shovelware, but there are also quite a few excellent titles.
Take for instance Gameloft's Guitar Rock Tour. The GameLoft-developed title leans heavily on the Guitar Hero franchise for its gameplay mechanics and aesthetic, but it manages to do enough different to make it work on the iPhone that I found it to be quite a bit of fun to play.
The game comes with two instruments to choose from and 17 songs, all of which I suspect are covers. To play through a game using the guitar you just tap your way through the notes on the four-fret guitar as they fall toward you down the neck of the virtual instrument. The songs drop sustained notes and lines of notes at you as well as a number of double notes. If you come across a line of notes you can slide your finger across them as they scroll down. Once you build up enough rock power you can activate the familiar power-up by sliding your finger up the gauge to go into a power-up mode that doubles your points.

In May, we told you about Apple's patent for a Wii Remote-like object. Now, it's November, and we're telling you again. Why? Because another, improved patent for the device has turned up. This takes it from the realms of "oh, it's something Apple are exploring" to "oh, Apple are looking seriously at developing one of these". It's still using IR, and the same basic principles of the Wii Remote, except now it's going one better by (in theory) having the ability to differentiate between the IR it's meant to detect (ie the Wii Remote) and the IR it's not meant to detect (ie your house lights). As a reminder, this is important because, with App Store games doing brisk business for the company on the iPhone, there'd be nothing stopping Apple doing something similar with this Wii Remote-like peripheral on other platforms.

The monkey lovers over at Sega Mobile have just flung some poo at T-Mobile and AT&T mobile phones with the release of Sambe De Amigo for the mobile phone. It's all the phone of the Sega classic, only without a great deal of the fun! Seriously guys, taking a game famous for its innovative controls and excellent music and then getting rid of both? Not generally a good idea.
“A classic and beloved rhythm music game, Samba de Amigo has had fans shaking for years with its party-like soundtrack, colorful characters and casual yet addictive gameplay,” said Tammy Robinson, Senior Director of Mobile, SEGA of America. “Samba de Amigo is another great example of the fun that can be had on the mobile platform.”
Actually, it's a rather good example of how much better gaming is on the iPhone, but I suppose that wouldn't be a very good marketing blurb, now would it?

Richard|Solo has unveiled a backup battery for the iPhone that has some features its competitors don't—a built-in LED flashlight and a laser pointer. All gimmicks aside, the 1800mAh capacity is good—but I just don't see the value in buying one of these awkward extenders for $70 when you can pick up a more practical case version like the Fastmac iV for only $10 more.

The company described MVP as a "thin layer of software" that will be embedded in handsets and 'be optimized to run efficiently on low-power-consuming and memory-constrained mobile phones.' Asked whether MVP would offer something different from the abstraction already provided by mobile Java, VMware's European product director Fredrik Sjostedt told ZDNet UK that MVP would require less recoding. 'If you want to have an application run on a Java-specific appliance, you need to code it for Java," Sjostedt said. "What we're introducing with MVP is an [embedded] abstraction layer below that, between the physical hardware and the software layer.

Recent firmware updates may have aimed to shut down such shenanigans, but it looks they were a little too slow to stop Jay Freeman (a.k.a. Saurik) from going to town with his newly jailbroken G1 and installing Debian on the handset. What's more, he apparently even managed to get Debian and Android to play nice with each other, letting you have a completely normal and unassuming phone by day and a nerd machine by night.
As you might expect, however, it's not exactly as simple as installing an app from the Android Market, but anyone with a little experience in installing Linux distributions on unconventional devices should be able to follow the instructions fairly easily, although actually turning it into something useful is another matter. Often, when people carp about Mobile Firefox or Opera not being able to run on the iPhone 'cause of Apple's SDK restrictions, they'll point to Android and say "I can't wait for Mobile Firefox on Android" or some variation of that, since Android theoretically doesn't have any limitations. I've got some bad news for those people. Firefox Mobile (aka Fennec) isn't coming to Android anytime soon

Just days after supplanting the BlackBerry in customer satisfaction among business wireless smartphone users, Apple's iPhone has taken down another cellphone icon, Motorola's Razr, in terms of total sales. According to NPD (the leading wireless research firm) the iPhone outsold the Razr in the 3Q—representing the first changing of the guard in three years. This change comes despite a higher price tag in the midst of a struggling economy. In fact, NPD notes that overall sales of cellphones are down 15% from last year.

We've seen our fair share of iPod speakers around here, and all too often they resemble boom boxes or clock radios (or sometimes both). Now, thanks to the combined efforts of EOps and industrial designer Michael Young, we finally have something that appears equally suited to the home, office and Korova Milk Bar. The i24R3 consists of an iPod dock / 40W subwoofer and two (upgradable to eight) 3-inch 20W satellite speakers, all in a fetching pure gloss white and aluminum casing. The whole shebang can be controlled with the included RF remote, from your iPod / iPhone or from any PC or Mac sporting iTunes and the included Wireless USB dongle. The base accepts a bevy of inputs and outputs, including RCA audio, video and composite video out -- and if that weren't enough, each speaker can be controlled separately using the included motion sensors, allowing hands-off volume and equalizer control. Something like that must be seen to be appreciated, so make sure you check out the video after the break. No price yet, but these guys should be hitting the street in early 2009.

This is one of the more bizarre bugs we’ve ever heard. The T-Mobile G1 has an open root shell that interprets everything you type as a command. It was discovered when a user just happened to type the word ‘reboot’ in a conversation and the phone immediately rebooted. A patch has already been rolled out to fix this issue. It also buttons up the earlier telnetd SUID problem.

Onyx Online, for the iPhone, is kind of like Xbox Live. Sort of. The ambitious service is the brainchild of Trism developer Steve Demeter, who hopes to add a slew of "social media" features to iPhone games, like leaderboards, achievements, forums, and the like. There's even a pissing contest feature, wherein Onyx-enabled games will allow players to view each other's profiles, scores, challenge friends, and see what games people are playing. Like we said, just add a headset and some 15-year-old boys screaming "your gay" and you have Xbox Live (and no, there's no typo there— even when they scream it, they use the wrong spelling, just like in the forums).
