On an airline that's actually serving the great country of Australia these days, an iPhone 4 decided enough was enough. Shortly after Regional Express flight ZL319 landed in Sydney from Lismore, "a passenger's mobile phone started emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow." What happened next is a bit of an Aussie mystery, but it seems at some point that the glow was "extinguished successfully." No one onboard was harmed, and the handset in question has been handed over to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for "analysis." It suffered only mild reception issuesprior to its final collapse, and if faced with a similar situation, Siri reportedly stated that it would consult a therapist before discharging hot fury.

Siri can make appointments, tell you the weather, but now she can start your car as well!
After we showed you how Siri could be hacked to use a custom proxy and execute custom commands, we knew it wouldnât be long before additional hacks would start rolling in. [Brandon Fiquett] thought it would be great if Siri could remotely control his car, so he built this functionality into Siri using [Peteâs] proxy software.
The hack relies on the Viper remote start system he had installed in his car, along with a few modules loaded into his proxy server. His proxy server tweaks allow Siri to interpret a preset list of commands such as âVehicle Startâ and âVehicle Arm/Disarmâ, relaying the commands to the Viper SmartStart module.
We imagine that the back-end functionality is not unlike the existing SmartStart iOS app, but it looks like [Brandon] beat Viper to the game since Siri has not been made available to 3rd party developers as of yet.
Check out the video below to see Siri in action, then be sure to swing by his web site for additional videos as well as the code that makes this possible.

Wherever you are, Little Fockers can be with you.
Sky always stresses that the purpose of Sky Go is to give existing subscribers wider access to the content they already pay for at no extra cost
The latest step is adding movies for those who access Sky Go on their iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. Android is promised for next year.
So, they will now be able to stream movies when they are on wi-fi, with 3G expected by the end of the year. That should make the operator data tariff managers gulp.
Previously, the mobile service had offered 'linear' movies only, with on-demand available to computer users.
The first tranche of films includes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Little Fockers, Black Swan, Gulliver's Travels and Limitless.

iPhone 4S spike gives it 42.8 per cent of UK smartphone sales, against 35 per cent for Android.
Despite a lukewarm reception from the press, iPhone 4S was clearly a huge hit with consumers.
It caused a huge leap in sales for Apple in October and, according to market analyst Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, this boosted figures for the quarter too.
In the latest 12 weeks of sales in the UK, Apple's market share grow to 27 per cent.
Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director, said: "With nearly a year and a half between iPhone launches there has been huge pent up demand for a new Apple device.
"We have previously seen that Apple customers tend to be very loyal to the brand. However, it is still astonishing that 75 per cent of new iPhone 4S owners previously owned an iPhone."

MAME4droid is a version of iMAME4all (iPhone, iPad) for Android, developed also by David Valdeita (Seleuco).
They emulates arcade games supported by original MAME 0.37b5 plus some additional games from newer MAME versions.
This version emulates over 2000 different romsets.
Please, try to understand that that with that amount of games, some will run better than others and some might not even run with iMAME4all. Please, donÂŽt email me asking for a specific game to run.
Although the performance is very good with modern devices (all games I tested on iPad run practically perfect), owners of older devices should not expect a good performance; please turn off sound because that's very helpful.
After installing, place your MAME-titled zipped roms in /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/iMAME4all/roms (iMAME4all) or /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms (MAME4droid) folder.
MAME4droid & iMAME4all uses only '0.37b5', 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset'. Use "clrmame.dat" file included in '/var/mobile/Media/ROMs/iMAME4all' or /sdcard '/ROMs/MAME4all/' to convert romsets from other MAME versions to the ones used by this version, using ClrMAME Pro utility, available in next webpage:
MAME4droid 1.4.1 added local multiplayer (using external IME app as Wiimote Controller or equivalent), added option to change default rom path, fixed thread being suspended when emulator paused.

Sega has ported the first Sonic game on Game Boy Advance over to Android.
Sonic Advance has just released on the Android Market in Japan for 415 Yen (about ÂŁ3.50/$5.30) in all its colourful glory.
GBA-owning Sonic fans will remember Sonic Adventure as a breath of fresh air during the early years of the mascot's seeming downturn since his crossover to 3D in 1999.
It was one of the first games since his 3D debut in which Sega revisited his old-school 2D mechanics and reminded us why we all loved him in the first place.
There's currently no word on an Android release outside of Japan, but we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for its arrival soon.

Want that 70″ LCD television in your living room to be an Android device? This little guy can make it happen. With an HDMI port on one end, and a USB plug on the other for power, just plug in FXI Technologiesâ Cotton Candy dongle to create a 1080p Androidtelevision. The price isnât set for the device, but itâs expected to be available at less than $200. Considering whatâs inside thatâs pretty reasonable. Thereâs a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM processor, 1 gig of RAM, 64 gigs of storage, Bluetooth, WiFi, and a microSD card slot. Wow!So is it hackable? Absolutely. Well, kind of? The company doesnât intend to bring Cotton Candy to the retail market. Instead, they will sell the device to developers who may do what they wish. From there, said developers have the option to license the technology for their own products. This begs the question, will the development kit come in under $200? Hard to say.Check out the video after the break to hear an interview with the companyâs CEO. It certainly sounds fascinating, and like the Chumby NeTV, we canât wait to see what comes of this. There seems to be a bit of confusion about Nokia Drive's future in the Windows Phone Marketplace. News of its impending arrival -- for a price -- was originally tweeted by a third-party and then re-tweetedby Nokia India. Sadly, we're told this was all just a mistake. We originally reached out to Espoo's finest to confirm the story, and well, we met a giant brick wall in the process. According to the company's media relations department, "Nokia Drive comes pre-installed on our Nokia Lumia range and there are currently no plans to make it available for Windows Phone based devices from other OEMs." It's a heartbreaker, indeed, but the crew at Navigon can certainly breathe a sigh of relief -- for the time being.

While Americans plow through their cash and cards, lapping up the litany of Black Friday specials -- and readying themselves for the inevitable Cyber Monday second wave -- it looks like our trans-Atlantic cousins will also get a taste of discount joy. After a brief 18-month stint, Best Buy UK is packing its bags, and it wants to travel light. Both the online and physical stores will see prices snipped by between 10 and 30 percent, though we don't know whether this will extend to Best Buy's full product line or simply less desirable devices. Either way, the brick-and-mortar stores have been closed over the weekend in preparation. Bargain-hunting Brits should be able to grab some some cut-price Christmas treats when the eleven stores reopen on Monday.

ChuChu Rocket, one of the most frantic puzzle games around (and a genuine classic), is now available for Android. The game has players guiding their adorable mice (Chuchus), leading them away from evil cats (Kapukapus) and into handy escape rockets. Go ahead and read that last sentence again, we promise it's accurate.
You can grab the game now from Android Market for $0.99. Unfortunately, if you're looking for some games for your fancy new Kindle Fire, the game doesn't appear to be on Amazon's Android Appstore. Of course, it's still available for iOS (at $2.99), if that's your thing.

A new report Pyramid Research says that by 2016, 90.8 per cent of all handsets sold in the UK will be smartphones.
It adds that this surge will increase mobile data service revenue to ÂŁ7.7bn. That's a huge windfall for operators, but also a potential headache in terms of making enough network capacity available to keep customers happy.
The rise of the smartphone appears to be fuelling another spike in overall phone ownership. Pyramid reckons mobile penetration in the UK is expected to reach 152.8 per cent by 2016, which is around 98m subscriptions.
Olena Kaplan, Pyramid Research's associate analyst, said: "The growing demand for simultaneous data access by multiple devices, which will be met by 4G technology following the 4G licence auction in 2012, will result in mobile data service revenue reaching ÂŁ7.7 billion by 2016."

Research firm GfK says Apple is leading the charge with customer loyalty ahead of rival phone makers as 84 per cent of iPhone users said they would choose iPhone again when they replace their current device.
Android is second with 60 per cent of consumers saying they would return to Google's OS, while just 48 per cent of RIM's BlackBerry customers would stay true and return.
That's no surprise given the inconsistent service RIM has given customers over the past couple of months. At the time of the October power outage, many customers took to social networks to voice their anger at the lack of communication from the firm.
The report says that on 63 per cent on average will stick with the phone they have, which means brands will have to work hard or fail miserably in order to command change in the market.
Ryan Garner, analyst at GfK, said: "Apple is clearly ahead of the game, but developments next year will challenge that."

As many will be aware, most attempts to use a touchscreen with gloves on will fail and with 700 million touchscreen phones to ship in 2016, that's a lot of naked mitts in use.
Prior to the development of iPrints, costly special touchscreen compatible gloves were required but iPrints have been designed to prevent that problem and fill the market gap.
iPrints are adhesive strips that attach directly to the glove finger allowing the wearer to operate touchscreen devices as they would do without wearing gloves.
Phil Mundy, inventor of iPrints, said: "I used to find it really annoying when I wore gloves and had to keep taking them off to use my smartphone.
"I searched around for an answer to use a touchscreen without taking my gloves off, but only found expensive, touchscreen-friendly gloves. I wanted a cost-effective alternative that allowed me to use my smartphone while still wearing whichever gloves I wanted.â

Apple has just launched its annual Black Friday online sale, and, as you may expect, there isn't a whole lot to write home about. The company has slashed the prices of its MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac by a modest $100 for this year's 24-hour event, with the iPad 2 seeing a $41 reduction, and the iPod Touch getting slashed by a measly $21. Not exactly the kind of discounts you'd wait an entire year for, but they're there at the source link, nonetheless.

"Black Friday has touched off a three-way price war between Apple, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. Kobo readers dropped their price to just $99 to compete with the Nook, only to discover that Barnes and Noble was lowering the price on their touchscreen Nooks to $79, to compete with the new $79 Kindle from Amazon. And meanwhile, Apple has announced aggressive pricing on all Apple products for Black Friday, reportedly including$100 off on MacBook and iMac products, and a $61 discount on the iPad 2.

Approves Big Fish Games service, realises what it's done, bans it.
According to Bloomberg, Big Fish would have been the first on iPad to offer users access to dozens of games for $4.99 to $6.99 a month.
The firm says it's baffled by the reversal.
âWe were notified that the app was removed,â said Paul Thelen, founder of Big Fish. âWeâre trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened.â
One can assume that Apple would have taken 30 per cent of any recurring revenue from the service â a strategy that has annoyed companies behind other subscription services.
If Big Fish was cool with this, you wonder what the problem was.

As hinted at yesterday, â80s British games icon Dizzy is set to return.
His modern arrival comes in the form of an iOS remake of 1991 title Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk for iPhone and iPad, as well as for Googleâs Android platform.
Furthermore, the release is nearly upon us â it will arrive on Friday December 9th.
âIt always astounds us what a loyal fan base Dizzy still has,â Dizzy co-creator Philip Oliver stated. âEven after all these years people remember Dizzy fondly and itâs great to see him return for his older fans and introduce him to a new generation of gamers.â
Brother Andrew Oliver added: âDizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk was one of the most popular Dizzy titles and itâs exciting to see him making his debut iOS and Android for the holidays.â
This new version is being developed by DNA Interactive, with original project director Paul Ranson saying: â20 years on and Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk remains one of the most memorable games in the series for its puzzles and humour and itâs an absolute pleasure to return to the directorâs role for this HD edition.
âFor once, this is a retro classic that doesnât require rose-tinted glasses to appreciate its design and gameplay â Dizzy: Prince of the Yolk is simply a great puzzle-solving romp thatâs been brought up-to-date with glorious visuals.â

Weekly updates to the best selling iPhone and iPad games
Apple UK has today started publishing weekly charts detailing the most popular apps on its iOS platforms.
It is producing four weekly charts: iPhone paid apps, iPhone free apps, iPad paid apps and iPad free apps.
Each chart is a top ten, published every Wednesday - it names the app and its publisher (which can either be the original developer or its publisher, depending on who has the direct relationship with Apple).
Although the charts are for all apps, games feature heavily in each due to their popularity and cost on these platforms.
Apple is still publishing the up to the minute region and genre charts in iTunes.
