Let's face it: most projectors aren't very useful outside of home theaters or boardrooms, even if they're packing some smarts. Beam may get you to change your mind, though. Its namesake Android-powered projector runs apps, streams media from your mobile gear (through AirPlay or Miracast) and starts tasks based on the time or what you're doing. You can play a video message when someone gets home, for instance, or load Netflix as soon as you turn on Bluetooth speakers. However, the design is the real party trick. While the 854 x 480 resolution and 100 lumen brightness are no great shakes, you can screw Beam into any standard light socket -- you don't have to hunt for a free wall outlet (or even a wall) if you're just looking to show off some vacation photos.

Dolphin Git 4.0-5511 is compiled. This is the trunk of Dolphin Project. Dolphin is the first Gamecube emulator able to run commercial games! Dolphin is a Gamecube, Wii and Triforce (the arcade machine based on the Gamecube) emulator which supports many extra features and abilities not present on the original consoles. It has a partial Wii support and plays most Gamecube games.
Dolphin Git changelog:
* Merge pull request #2041 from Sonicadvance1/AArch64_vertex_loader
[AArch64] Vertex loader and things
* [AArch64] Change the vertex loader over to using unscaled loadstores.
In nearly all direct loadstore cases we can use unscaled loadstores.
Still have a fallback in case we hit a situation that we /can't/ do a unscaled loadstore.
* [AArch64] Implement loadstore unscaled.
* Convert our vertex loader unit test to the new RunVertices arguments arrangement.
* [AArch64] Minor floating point loadstore improvements.
These use the Vector x Element FMUL instruction to improve speeds slightly.
Should give ~3cycle improvement per quantized loadstore done.
* [AArch64] Implement vertex loader recompiler.
Shows a noticeable reduction in time spent in the vertex loader.
* Change RunVertices' function arguments.
This reduces some dumb state shuffling when calling the emitted vertex loaders.
* [AArch64] Fix another assert in the JIT register cache.
* [AArch64] Implement a couple of emitter instructions.
These will be used with the vertex loader JIT recompiler.
* [AArch64] Fix non-PCH build.
* [ARM] Fix poison memory functions.
We were poisoning 4x more data and overrunning our buffers. We don't want to do this.
* [AArch64] Fix a bunch of emitter asserts.
Since I've added the msg handler. I found all these asserts that were backwards. So they were asserting on the correct arguments.
* [Android] Register panic alert handler.
This lets me see _assert_msg_ alerts on Android when passing dumb arguments to my AArch64 emitter.
* Merge pull request #2055 from magumagu/fakevmem-code
Allow executing code out of FakeVMEM.
* Allow executing code out of FakeVMEM.
Fixes regression from PR1856 (address translation).

Apple hasn’t even released its much-anticipated smartwatch, yet it is already expected to shift 20 million units by the end of the year.
Thanks to the Apple Watch, the tech company is expected to own more than a quarter of the wearables market, which will potentially see shipments soar to 75 million, up 158 per cent on 2014, predicts CCS Insight.
Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, said: “The Apple Watch will be instrumental in taking the wearables market to the next level of growth. If successful, it’ll create a rising tide that will life the whole market.â€
2015 is looking to be the year of wearables, with sales of such devices growing from 29 million last year, to 172 million in 2018.
CCS said that 2015 is a 'make or break' year for wearables.
North America accounted for more than half of global sales last year, and is continuing its lead in the market as time goes on.
The wearables market will continue to be dominated by fitness bands from the likes of Fitbit and Jawbone, following a huge surge in sales in 2014.
George Jijiashvili, analyst at CCS Insight, commented: “We expect sales of fitness and activity devices to double in 2015 to 40 million units. In contrast to many other commentators, we don’t believe smartwatches will dent sales of fitness products in the short term."

Apple apparently wanted its smartwatches to focus heavily on health-related features, but the company was forced to changed direction mid-development. According toThe Wall Street Journal, the company originally envisioned a device that can monitor heart rate, blood pressure and stress levels (based on the conductivity of the skin). Unfortunately, the sensors they tested just didn't pass muster, which isn't entirely surprising, since we've reviewed plenty of wearables with patchy heart rate monitors in the past. The company's engineers found that hairy arms, dry skin and even how tightly the watch is worn can affect the results, and they didn't find a solution in time.

In an alternate universe where up is down and black is white, more feature phones get shipped year-on-year while its replacement, the smartphone, sees sales stall. That's apparently what happened in Japan last year though, according to MM Research Institute. For the first time in seven years, flip-phone shipments grew -- and grew by 5.7 percent to a hard-to-comprehend 10.58 million units. In the same year, smartphones units shipped fell 5.3 percent, down to 27.7 million. Flip-phones still make up a surprisingly large proportion of phone sales in Japan and it's actually the second year in a row that the market research firm has noted a drop in smart device sales. MM Research's Hideaki Yokota told Reuters: "Smartphones are also peaking in terms of functionality and they tend to last a long time as well, so there are fewer renewals."

Until you, if you'd wanted to use Microsoft Office on iOS, you'd have been stuck usingDropbox, OneDrive or SharePoint to store your files online. For some reason, Apple's home-grown storage service was a notable absentee, but thankfully one that has been now remedied. In the most recent update, Microsoft has enabled users to save their documents, spreadsheets and presentations to iCloud, so long as they're running iOS 8. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as with the other platforms, since you have to dig into the "More" section before you can select the option. Still, better than nothing, eh?

A Californian firm has developed a new case that adds physical keys to iPad displays.
Tactus Technology is responsible for creating the Phorm, which features a screen protector lined with microfluids.
When the protector is activated the fluid raises up from the screen creating Finger Guides, which sit above each key.
The Phorm also features a back case that clips onto a tablet, where the activation button for the Finger Guides is located.
The case has been designed specifically for the iPad Mini and iPhone 6 Plus, and works with all native iOS keyboards.
In a video about the Phorm, a spokesperson said: “Phorm overlays physical guides onto your keypad, making typing effortless. It gives you greater control over your keyboard.â€
The Phorm is now only available for pre-order in the US for $99, but it is expected to go on sale widely during the summer.

Apple faces a fresh security threat with reports that the jailbreaking community has made a breakthrough in accessing newer iOS devices.
The Register reports that an exploit concerning the Lightening connector found in modern Apple units has for the first time opened access to Apple's serial kernel debugger. This was previously only possible on older models.
All of which gives far greater control over devices and opens the door to altering core system codes and taking more or less complete control of an iPhone or iPad. Production on a cable that takes advantage of the loophole has apparently already begun.
The site adds that “many prominent figures in the jailbreaking community†seem hugely excited by the development, suggesting that there’s definitely something to the claims. One hacking site went as far to say that the new exploit "the key to the castle†and is the first step in "totally owning an iDevice"

By now, you will have heard at least something about Windows 10, the next iteration of Microsoft's OS that aims to create a unified experience across all the devices it'll eventually inhabit: everything from PCs and laptops to tablets and phones. Microsoft already released several preview builds for computers, and now the first Windows 10 Technical Preview is available for phones. You're highly unlikely to want to install this buggy early build on your daily driver, but don't sweat it. I've got just the phone for the job: a Lumia 630, which happens to be one of the few compatible devices at the moment. So let's take a look at what's new, and what's still to come.

As you know, I had to replace the VGBA-Android app, removed by Google, with the new Emulator app. I have since renamed the new app to "VGBAnext", releasing the first major update today. Unlike VGBA, VGBAnext supports both GameBoy Advance and GameBoy Color games, and also GameBoy Classic and Super GameBoy. In VGBAnext 1.1, I have switched to the Material Design theme, with the flat title bar, new navigation, and light backgrounds. I have also updated all the icons (including app icon) and redesigned menus to make them all work uniformly. People who could not save gameplay for DropBoxed games, should find this bug fixed now.
- Switched to the Material Design theme.
- Added new app icon showing both GBA and GB.
- Added "up" buttons to all title bars.
- Revised all menus, making them work uniformly.
- Fixed uploading state back to DropBox after playing.
- Updated all icons to the newest Lollipop versions.
- Retired some icons, replacing them with better fitting ones.
- Removed application name from all title bars, to save space.
- Now defaulting to the "light UI" mode.

A new version of the PSP emulator PPSSPP has been released.
Quote:
February 2, 2015: 1.0.1 with a few bugfixes coming soon
1.0 shipped with broken scrolling in the savestate list, that and a few other small bugs will be fixed shortly, in 1.0.1 coming later this week.
February 1, 2015: 1.0!
Finally, 1.0 is out, with a ton of new improvements! Note that it can take a while for it to become available in the Play store, depending on your location and Google´s datacenters.
Full improvements list:
- Many, many bug fixes in JIT and elsewhere, improving compatibility
- Proper fix for Zenfone and related devices
- Direct3D 9 supported as a rendering backend on Windows, helps on old GPUs and can be faster than OpenGL in many cases
- You can now create specific configs per game
- FPU rounding modes much better supported, fixes the Peace Walker boss that was undefeatable. NOTE: This breaks saves in Gods Eater - you must turn off the better rounding, load your save game, turn it on and save.
- The JIT now uses SSE on x86, improving speed considerably. This does not affect ARM devices, that´s for the next version or two.
- Improved audio output code on both Windows and Android, reducing audio latency on Windows and on some Android systems
- FFMPEG upgraded, fixed some music hangs ("GHA phase shifts")
- Some Ad Hoc improvements, coldbird.net is now default adhoc server. Ad Hoc still unfinished and hard to use.
- Graphics fixes: Bezier/spline drawing fixes, vertex position fixes, DanganRonpa on Adreno fixed, flat shading fixed, vertex cache improved, some PowerVR blockiness issues fixed, screen scaling filter added, Google Cardboard support
- Simulate UMD speed better, fixing hangs in several games

- Somewhat better disk full handling
- Fixes to dynamic unloading of code, fixing problems in GEB and TRM 2/3
- Updated to SDL2 where applicable (Linux, Mac)
- Some new features, like analog/dpad-swap hotkey, graphics hack for Phantasy Star, show last bit of debug log in dev tools, etc
- No more need for MSVCRT DLLs on Windows
