Seen those spooky adverts on the TV that warn "It has been released"? Or maybe you've caught them on this very website? Those adverts are the first foray into the mainstream conciousness of Gizmondo, the new handheld games-and-everything-else system from Tiger Telematics.[br]Okay, so with DS launching in the US and Japan and PSP just round the corner it might not be the ideal time to introduce another handheld - one with no proven track record in the games market. Gizmondo isn't scared. Tiger today announced that they've recorded over 560,000 pre-orders for the unit through its official website.[br][br]According to Tiger, "the majority of these pre-orders originated from outside the UK, apparently with early adopters trying to purchase units ahead of the US and pan-European roll outs scheduled for Q1 2005."[br][br]The official launch date for Gizmondo in the UK was October 29, although don't be surprised if you haven't seen it down your local games shop. At the moment the unit is only available through the official website for 229, and only in limited numbers. [br][br]An actual retail date for the system - which features a 400 Mhz processor, Nvidia graphics hardware, an MP3 and Mpeg4 movie player, GPS capabilities, a digital camera and wirless connectivity for gaming and communication (phew!) - has not yet been set, but is pencilled in before the end of the year in the UK and first quarter 2005 in the US and across Europe.[br][br]Carl Freer, the managing director of Gizmondo, said of the pre-order figures, "This is a fantastic affirmation of interest and these numbers bode extremely well for Gizmondo." [br][br]He's right, but we do have a couple of caveats to throw into the ring.[br][br]First off, this pre-order figure does not necessarily translate into sold units. At present the Gizmondo website is accepting pre-orders on the condition that purchasers will be notified when a unit is available and then asked for their payment details. Freer believes that "realistically at least half of these pre-orders will move to retail sales."[br][br]More tellingly, our efforts to get hold of a Gizmondo to playtest have so far proved fruitless - and not for want of trying. It could just be part of a masterful teaser campaign intended to stoke up interest in the system, but it would be good to see the thing running for real.[br][br]Nonetheless, a number of big name publishers including Microsoft and SCi have been linked to Gizmondo and a Gizmondo store is planned for London's trendy Carnaby Street. Could this mysterious system prove to be a heavy hitter in the handheld wars?

Screen size adjustable [br]We provide 176x208,256x240,176x165,128x120 four options. you can choose what you like. [br]2. Graphics quality adjustable [br]As we should change the size, we must use interpolation. We provide three interpolation methods: nearest, horizontal linear and bilinear. For programs running on mobiles, we must get a tradeoff between speed and graphics quality. We make the choice to users. Bilinear is very slow, and there maybe is still space to optimize. hey i want to use an ngage for playing mp3s, i want to get a 1 gig mmc card and use about 250 mb on games and put the rest as mp3s.
Would there be any problems with doing this????

News from C&VG [br][br] The Tapwave Zodiac is a powerful fully featured PDA that is geared for games, with a graphics accelerator, an analogue joystick and shoulder buttons. It also plays MP3s and videos. The founders of Tapwave were original Palm employees from Engineering and Marketing, and as you might expect, the Zodiac is a slickly packaged device with good build quality, an excellent screen, and ergonomic controls. It has a very fast ARM processor. It has Bluetooth but no W-Fi. It does have two SDIO slots though, so Wi-Fi is easy to add with the appropriate card.[br]However good the hardware is, and it is very good, the success of the Zodiac depends entirely on the games that are released for it. Oddly I found that the classics I was expecting to get on with, Duke Nukem, Doom II, and Spyhunter, were not particularly compelling. On the other hand, while Pocket Mini Golf didn't look promising at first, it is weirdly addictive and good fun. Acid Solitaire, bundled with the machine, is superb. Stunt Car Extreme also has good replay value and shows the impressive graphics and sound performance that the machine is capable of.[br][br]One of the biggest names, Electronic Arts, has brought their Palm version of Madden NFL to the Zodiac. Wait, don't go - it's really good! It has all of the NFL teams and their logos are bang up-to-date! Actually it is a very good game - if you like American Football. There is no Fifa 2005 or Pro Evolution Soccer for it - it desperately needs this for the 4.8 billion people in the world who think football is a game played by men with round balls.[br][br]There's not a lot of 'name' software available for the Zodiac. No sign of The Sims, Fifa 2005, Tiger Woods Golf, or Need for Speed, all of which are either out for the NDS or scheduled for the PSP. Whilst the Zodiac won't have the massive backing of the big games companies that is promised for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS, it has a huge base of existing Palm software which is both varied and cheap. It doesn't have a killer game yet - one that will make you buy the unit just to play it.[br][br]Also, multi-player support for games is a bit thin on the ground, with even Madden 2005 players having to wait for multi-player support to be added at a future date. There are signs of good things to come, though, with games like Warfare Inc supporting multi-player gaming across different platforms - Palm, Zodiac and Pocket PC players can all connect up together.[br][br]The raw power of the ARM processor used in the Zodiac makes it perfect for running emulators. As well as the Atari classics available from the Tapwave store - including Asteroids, Missile Command and Centipede - the machine is well served by a wide range of emulator software. There are emulators for the Atari ST, Nintendo NES and SNES, Sega Master System, GameGear and Gameboy Advance, as well as Xcade, a classic arcade game emulator. There are at least as many more emulators available for the Palm which will inevitably have Zodiac support added - including ZX Spectrum and even the venerable Apple IIe.[br][br]The Zodiac is a good machine for the developer. Many development tools are available and PalmOS is a mature and well understood platform. You can buy excellent development tools from Metrowerks and it is also possible to use the open source GCC compiler. The first cross-platform development tools are coming out (Punk, from Extreme AI - not cheap!), allowing developers to author a game on a PC and instantly port it to the Zodiac Nintendo DS and PSP. If this is a success, it will put the mobile gaming focus where it should be - on the software.[br][br]The Zodiac is an extremely powerful mobile games machine. It has a large, good quality screen, vastly bigger than the Nokia N-Gage and even slightly bigger than the PSP (320x480 versus 176x208(!) and 272x480 respectively). In PDA terms, it's better specified than the top of the range Palm, and its screen is only equalled by the Tungsten T3 and T5. Only the four new VGA Pocket PCs (from Dell, HP, Asus and Fujitsu) have a better screen. [br][br]Current UK prices for the Zodiac are around 300. This makes it expensive for a games machine but competitively priced for a top-of-the-range PDA. Although games for the Zodiac are typically cheaper than the expected price of PSP and NDS games, the Zodiac unit price will have to drop - the PSP and NDS are both likely to be considerably cheaper than the current Zodiac price.[br][br]The Zodiac has everything but Wi-Fi and a VGA screen, and the battery life is excellent. It doesn't quite have everything you need in the box - you may need to add an email client - but it's got good software support and has been designed and marketed by experts who wrote the book on PDA usability. It also syncs with a Mac. It is a hugely versatile device and if anything survives against the PSP and NDS, this will be it. It's not going head-to-head against them, and that could save it. There are huge amounts of Palm software which will run on the Zodiac, and just one really decent game could make this machine thrive. Original mobile games are still thin on the ground for all platforms, so it is a level playing field for all developers, and the next really killer game probably won't come from anybody you've heard of. And for that reason I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Tapwave's intriguing Zodiac handheld has bolstered its increasingly credible games line up today with the announcement of Tomb Raider Zodiac, an exclusive handheld incarnation of the Tomb Raider franchise.[br]Set for debut in spring 2005, placing it well ahead of the next console version of the Tomb Raider franchise currently under development at Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider Zodiac will apparently use a custom 3D game engine to take advantage of the Zodiac's ARM9 processor, ATI graphics accelerator and hi-res handheld display. [br][br]Ms Croft's newest incarnation also boasts a brand new character model, the usual set of lavish locations (which are yet to be confirmed) and should involve the usual winning mix of action and athletic puzzle solving.[br][br]Eidos are promising one of "Lara's greatest adventures yet", a consummation devoutly to be wished after the debacle which was Angel of Darkness.[br][br]"We have been very impressed by the Zodiac and Tapwave's understanding of what makes a good Tomb Raider game," said Simon Protheroe, Eidos' director of new media and online technologies. Vampent.com today published a perfect NES emulator for Series 60 including N-Gage. It is the first emulator on N-Gage ever that has perfect sound effects the same as PC emulators. It runs smoothly and support more than 90% mappers. It is a commercial software, but it hasn't many limitations as other softwares. Vampent.com also provide lifetime upgrade to registered users.

The port of MAME to the Nokia N-Gage and other series 60 phones has been updated, heres whats new:[br][br]1.1 (18 November 2004)[br][br]The name was changed from "EMame" to "EEMame", to avoid mixups with other versions of EMame (Peter van Sebille's original port for UIQ, Hannu Viitala's port for the Nokia 9210, and Steve's port for the Motorola A920).[br]EEMame was ported to the Nokia 9500.[br]A new option was added to stretch the display to fit the screen exactly (that is, the original aspect ratio is changed).[br]Options can be set on a per-game basis.[br]The driver list was updated to include around 25 new games.[br]Micro-EEMame (for Series 60 devices with limited memory) has a completely revised driver list.[br][br]Download EEMAME and MicroEEMAME Here and Here

Skeezix has released a new beta of his great Multi Emulator for the Zodiac console, heres the news:[br][br]Added basic Atari 2600 support!
