Apple has revealed that it is making more progress to help diversify its workforce, with its next diversity report coming sometime this summer.
Denise Young Smith, Apple’s global human resources chief, said that the firm will reveal more progress, pointing out that 35 per cent of Apple’s most recent employees are female.
She said: “We did have some movement in our hiring of women and hiring of minorities.”
Tim Cook CEO of Apple, also previously called for more diversity within the workforce at the firm during a speech at WWDC 2015.
Apple also joined the group of Silicon Valley companies, which publicly report the gender, race and ethnicity of its workforce.
Plus, the firm has also partnered with the National Center for Women and Information Technology, to help widen its access to women in the tech industry.
In addition, Apple is allegedly focusing on production for its next-generation iPad Mini and is planning an end-of-life iPad after its revamp.
According to Economic Daily via Apple Insider, the firm is also allegedly producing a larger 12.9-inch model that has been dubbed the iPad Pro, however the company will apparently not launch a next-generation iPad Air until 2016.
Other previous reports suggest that the iPad Pro may come equipped with an improved flexible touch panel.
Lastly, Apple’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have also reportedly entered production.
According to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the smartphone will launch with a bigger display and will be slightly taller and thicker than its predecessors, plus colours may also match the Apple Watch.

It might be safe to stay signed in to Skype these days, but that doesn't mean you want to. Do you really want a video call from your parents when you're out on the town? If not, you'll be glad to hear that Skype is making it much easier to sign in and out. The Android app's 5.5 update now remembers your login details after you log out, so hopping online again is just a matter of tapping a button. If you're worried that someone will snoop on your conversations, you can still ask Skype to require your password whenever you get back to business. Grab the new app today if you often find yourself eager for some quiet time.

Samsung has quietly launched its slimmest smartphone ever in China. TheGalaxy A8 isn't a spec-monster, but it's certainly a design feat for a company that gets criticized a lot on that front. The all-metal body is just 5.9mm thin, weighs a mere 151 grams (5.3 oz) and has a bezel size that you can basically round down to zero. The internals are still good enough to fight any mid-range device: a 5.7-inch 1080p OLED display, 8-core Snapdragon 615 chip, a 16-megapixel f/2.2 rear/5-megapixel wide-angle f/1.9 front camera and 2GB of RAM. Despite the size, Samsung managed to squeeze in a generous 3,050mAh battery that's larger than the Galaxy S6's.

The iPod may not be Apple's golden goose anymore, hell, it's not even an option on the company's site anymore, but that doesn't mean that the firm is ignoring it. The company is giving the iPods a seasonal refresh with the junior devices getting some new colors and the iPod touch getting more of the features we're used to seeing on the iPhone. Whereas the existing touch came with just a 5-megapixel camera, the new version gets an 8-megapixel shooter with burst and slo-mo -- just as you'd find on the iPad Air 2. Internals-wise, the new iPod comes with the 64-bit A8 CPU that you find in the iPhone 6, paired with the M8 motion co-processor that'll please the fitness enthusiast in your life.

Microsoft's been big on facial recognition lately. After promising that the technology can be used as a log-in option for Windows 10, it launched a website that guesses your age based on your features (HowOld.net) and another that takes a stab at whether the people in two different photos are twins (TwinsOrNot.net). More recently, the company has launched a mobile app version of TwinsOrNot for Windows Phone devices. You know, for those times when you quickly need to know if your power brows really make you look like Cara Delevingne. Or if you and your BFF are slowly morphing into a single person like Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry in the image above.

45-year-old Robin Lee was arrested after he used a socket on a London Overground train to charge up his iPhone. He was handcuffed and arrested for "abstracting electricity". Robin was then charged with "unacceptable behaviour" after "becoming aggressive" when objecting to his first arrest. The Guardian reports: "Speaking to the Evening Standard, Lee said he had been confronted by a police community support officer on the overground train from Hackney Wick to Camden Road on 10 July. The Overground is part of Transport For London’s wider network that also includes London Underground and the buses. 'She said I’m abstracting electricity. She kept saying it’s a crime. We were just coming into the station and there happened to be about four police officers on the platform. She called to them and said: ‘This guy’s been abstracting electricity, he needs to be arrested’.”

Have one of TiVo's DVRs in the living room, but would rather not get another one of its devices just to watch recordings in the basement? If you use Apple devices at home, you no longer have to. TiVo has updated its iOS app with (long, long overdue) AirPlay mirroring support, so you can send your recorded shows to an Apple TV as long as everything is on the same local network. You'll need a Premiere, Roamio Plus, Roamio Pro or Stream device for AirPlay to even be an option, so don't get your hopes up if you're hanging on to old hardware. Still, this a big step forward -- you now have an easy way to catch up on missed episodes without having a TiVo-based set-top attached to your TV of choice.

Google is launching brand new watch-to-watch communication features forAndroid Wear that are not unlike those on Apple's Watch, according toPhandroid. Users will reportedly be able to send each other doodles, photos, stickers, messages and more using a feature called "Together." That's pretty similar to the Apple Watch's Digital Touch, which allows users to relay tap patterns, drawings and even heartbeats to each other. Oddly, Android Wear users who want to share items may need to use the same the same watchface, as the feature isn't system-wide. However, Phandroid admitted that its information on that aspect "is quite old."

Microsoft announced today that it is expanding the distribution channels for its Surface tablet line ahead of the upcoming Windows 10 global rollout. The Surface is currently sold through "a couple hundred" authorized Surface device distributors, as Gavriella Schuster, General Manager of Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Program, explained in a statement, but will soon grow to a few thousand. Any partner distributor can reportedly sign up for the expanded program assuming they qualify on volume sold. "We expect to get a few thousand resellers to jump on this," Schuster told ZDNet.

Apple has gained some more publicity this week thanks to its Apple Watch, although the company may not be too happy with the exposure.
Apple Watch wearers have taken to social media to share their photos of burns and rashes caused by the device.
One wearer tweeted on Twitter: “Not worn my Apple Watch today, yet there seems to be some sort of burn. Anyone else got this too ?”
While another user also tweeted: “wtf? My Apple Watch has burnt a hole in my wrist!!”, along with an image of a rash across his wrist.

You'll frequently hear law enforcement complain that it can't break the full-drive encryption in newer smartphone operating systems, but how often do the police run into that problem, really? Thanks to a US Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, you now have a better idea. The Manhattan District Attorney's office has revealed that, out of the 92 cases where an iPhone withiOS 8 has been involved so far, the cops have been locked out 74 times. District Attorney Cyrus Vance portrays this as proof that officers need backdoors or other forms of guaranteed access, noting that there's at least one case (in Illinois) where evidence from a victim's iPhone led to a conviction. Police shouldn't simply be told that there's "nothing [they] can do," he says.

If you'd had your eye on a new Nexus device but missed out on the recent round of smartphone sales, today's new Google tablet deal might be of interest. Just days after the Nexus 6 price was slashed to £304 (normally £479), the WiFi Nexus 9 is enjoying similar treatment, with the 16GB model now setting you back £200 instead of the usual £319. Amazon and Argos are both hosting the deal, which also includes a £100 discount on the 32GB model, but Google has not reflected the price change on its own store.

It seems silly that it's taken so long, but Lucasfilm and Disney have finally debuted an official Star Wars app to keep you connected to that far away galaxy at all times. Available for iOS and Android, it's basically a marketing conduit for the lead up to the The Force Awakens, offering up news, countdown timers for film releases and the usual Star Wars trivia. But it also seems like they've had some fun with the app: There's a jedi training feature that lets you swing your phone like a light saber, a collection of animated GIFs and classic sound effects, and you can even snap selfies as Star Wars characters. It seems like the app is basically a mobile extension of StarWars.com, which has served as a vibrant online hub for the franchise even when there were no new films on the horizon. (Insert obligatory "It's a trap!" reference here.)

If you're eager to get your hands on Apple's latest mobile OS, and you don't mind running unfinished software, you can now snag an iOS 9 public beta for your iPhone and iPad. To refresh, iOS 9 includes a significantly smarter version of Siri (which seems a lot like Google Now, at this point); better system-level privacy; and split-screen multitasking on the iPad. And of course, there will be a slew of other performance upgrades. This slightly more polished beta -- which supports the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and later devices -- comes after developers have had a chance to test out iOS 9 over the past month. That means most of the major issues have hopefully been ironed out. If you haven't yet, you can sign up for the iOS 9 public beta on Apple's website. As always, we can expect the final version of iOS 9 to land alongside new iPhones later this fall. We downloaded the beta here at Engadget HQ, so if you're feeling adventurous, you should be able to do the same from the source link below.

Apple's still pretty new to this whole public beta thing, but that didn't stop it from dropping two consumer previews today. We've already taken a closer look at Apple's latest desktop OS, so it's high time we dug a little deeper into what it's like using an early version of iOS 9. Spoiler alert: It's pretty damned solid.
Before we go any further, though, keep this in mind: As stable as the iOS 9 beta seems right now, it's still not ideal for use as a daily driver. If you're itching to taste the future, you might want to use a spare, sacrificial iDevice just in case. I'm testing this build on an iPad Air 2, which has a few tweaks that won't show up on the iPhone, so I'll flag those when the time is right. Ready? Let's go.

Phones, tablets and other devices slow down over time, no matter how expensive or cutting edge they were when you bought them. Now, researchers from Hanyang University in Korea claim a technology they developed can delay the inevitable. It's called Where's WALDIO or Write Ahead Logging Direct IO, and according to team leader Professor You-jip Won, it's a mode that extends battery life and speeds up phones by minimizing the amount of data a device records. "The core of the newly-developed technology is to record a small amount of data," Won said. "This tech will make it possible to use low-priced flash memory for a long time, like expensive flash memory."

Samsung is believed to be bringing the launch date of the Galaxy Note 5 forward by a few weeks in order to beat Apple to the punch. The Wall Street Journal believes that the Korean company will announce its phabletgigantophone in August and get it into stores ahead of the iPhone 6S. It's a break from tradition, since Samsung normally refreshes the Note line at IFA in the first week of September. Last year, however, the iPhone 6 arrived around the same time and, presumably, stole enough thunder to prompt the change.
