Six million Britons play smartphone games every day according to new research from ComScore.
In addition a total of 20m play games every month. That places gaming ahead of instant messaging in the most popular mobile activities race and approximately on par with photo messaging, reading the news or weather and just behind social media (22.3m).
The report adds that 64 per cent of mobile gaming takes place in the home with 33 per cent happening while commuting. The split between men and women is more or less even – 51 per cent and 49 per cent respectively, with 24 per cent being aged between 25-34.
6.8m download free games every month with Android claiming 48 per cent and iOS 40 per cent. Interestingly, only 28 per cent of the 1.3m gamers who purchase games each month do so on Android with iOS claiming 55 per cent. Of the 2.2m in-game purchases made each month 53 per cent are made on iOS and 36 per cent on Android.
