Sony MD says the company is considering working with Microsoft. Head of mobile says it's not true.
Last week, Sony Mobile's UK & Ireland MD Pierre Perron told reporters that the company is investigating the possibility of working with Microsoft on a Windows Phone.
It made perfect sense, as once upon a time Sony Ericsson made Windows smartphones and the company has been making Windows-based PCs for years.
However, Kunimasa Suzuki, head of Sony Mobile, denies anything of the sort, saying the company has no plans to launch any Windows Phone 8 smartphones and is not engaged in discussions with Microsoft.
He added that the only OS the company had plans for at the moment was Android, but also acknowledged that Sony Mobile has been steadily losing market share, and is no longer profitable, losing $360 million in the last quarter, but is looking to fix that using a variety of means.
Sony may not be working with Microsoft right now, but if Windows Phone 8 is successful, that could all change.
