ANALYSIS: Experts from the mobile sector recall the fall of Sharp and the lessons it holds for newcomers
Experts throughout the mobile industry have welcomed the influx of both long forgotten and new vendors to the market, but have warned them that they need to heed the lessons of the past if they are to prosper.
Speaking to PCR this month, experts from Qualcomm, Toshiba and trade magazine Mobile warned that the example of Sharp is one they all must pay attention to.
"Sharp's problem was that it got too close to Vodafone. It did everything Vodafone wanted, so it didn’t invest in new ideas and had no other outlet when the consumers lost interest," managing editor of Mobile, Soheb Panja, told PCR. "That balance is something all the new manufacturers will have to work out as they come back into the market."
