The Galaxy S4 is the new flagship smartphone from Samsung that the manufacturer is the marketing as the ultimate ‘life companion’. Part of this ‘life companion’ functionality includes features that are designed to aid users in creating new relationships, as well as sustaining old relationships with friends, family, and colleagues.
So, just what are these unique features, and how can they help in everyday life when it comes to people and friendships? We’ve taken a look at some of the Galaxy S4’s functionality to see if it is the ‘life companion’ Samsung claims it is…
ChatOn
The ChatOn live chat feature on the Galaxy S4 has been upgraded from the functionality available on previous Samsung smartphones so it now supports video chat and screen sharing. This means you can share what’s on your screen with anyone you are talking to using ChatOn.
Say, for example, you’re chatting to a friend who is abroad to organise a night out when they get back from their trip. The screen share function offered by ChatOn means you can show them a webpage that features the outfit you’re thinking of buying to wear when you next see each other.
Dual Camera
Another Galaxy S4 function that’s quite handy for keeping in touch with friends is video calling using the Dual Camera feature. Dual Camera allows users to utilise both front and rear cameras simultaneously, so if you are taking a picture you can capture an image of what’s in front of the phone as well as behind it. These images can then be blended together into one photo.
Dual Camera can also used when video calling, so the person you are video calling will be able to see what’s in front of the rear camera as well as the person holding the smartphone via the front-facing snapper. This could be really useful if you’re video calling someone from a picturesque location as you’ll be able to chat to your friend whilst showing them the amazing view you can see.
S Translator
If you’re abroad or are meeting people who speak another language, the Galaxy S4’s S Translator can help out with communication issues. S Translator knows nine different languages, including Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and can be used to translate text into speech using the phone’s voice functionality, as well as speech into text.
This is especially useful when on holiday and scenarios such as looking for directions to your hotel arise. Simply input the language and the directions you need into S Translator and the feature will offer audio of what you want to say in the chosen language. The in-built optical reader can also translate printed text too, so if a menu in a restaurant is in a foreign language you can scan the text and it will present it in your chosen language.
Group Play
Group Play is designed to let users interact with friends who also have a Galaxy S4. It allows people to share music tracks or play multiplayer games over a number of synced devices. All you have to do is wirelessly connect multiple Galaxy S4 phones using Wi-Fi direct, and then you can share photos, music, documents and more.
This feature could be used if you decide to have an impromptu party in the park where there’s no power source to plug a stereo in. Simply hook up your Galaxy S4s and each device can be used to play the same song at the same time creating a surround sound audio experience for everyone to enjoy.
So, is the Galaxy S4 really a ‘life companion’ that can help users build and maintain relationships? Well, the features we have discussed in this article are definitely handy in a number of situations, and would aid users to keep in contact with existing friends, and communicate when meeting new people too. So, if you want a device that offers more communication options than just calling and texting, the Galaxy S4 makes an excellent choice.
