Plants Vs Zombies 2 has already surpassed the total lifetime downloads of its popular predecessor, says PopCap.
Having launched globally on August 15, the sequel has been downloaded nearly 25 million times, claims the firm.
This achievement will have been helped along by PvZ 2's adoption of a free-to-play model, as opposed to the original game which was a paid app.
Guided by returning neighbour and shopkeeper Crazy Dave, players again use plants to defend themselves against waves of zombies from their backyard, but this time the settings span the "vast reaches of time, both past and future".
PopCap says the game has been designed from the ground up as a "live service", with new worlds, levels, plants, zombies and ways to play set to be released on an ongoing basis.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 features new touchscreen power-ups that let players interact with zombies directly, as well as plant food that lets them supercharge plants.
