More than 60,000 backers pledge support for new platform
Hackable console Ouya has smashed Kickstarter records by closing at an impressive $8.5million.
The Android-based platform garnered a total of 63,416 backers throughout its crowdfunding campaign, with more than 45,000 people pledging $99 or more to get the console before it hits retail.
Launched on July 10th, Ouya quickly surpassed more than $1m within hours of starting.
Just three days after starting the console then garnered more than $4m in contributions, going on to double that amount over the course of the next month.
Whilst there has been some controversy over how Ouya would be funded, the platform has been backed by a number of publishers and developers of late including U4ia, Square Enix and Robotoki, whilst it is currently in talks with Namco Bandai to bring its flagship franchises to the system.
