Ouya backers still missing consoles as retail sells out
The Android-powered Ouya console has launched today at retail, sporting an opening retail price of $99. The launch seems to be be going well, with outlets likeAmazon having already sold out of their allotments. Unfortunately, not all of the backers of the Ouya Kickstarter have received their promised consoles.
"I am pissed," Ouya founder Julie Uhrman wrote in a backer-only Kickstarter update. "Some of you have not yet received your Ouya, and to you, I apologize. I did not promise to ship to most of you before we hit store shelves. I promised to ship to all of you. I've been reading your comments, and we are working to solve this."
Uhrman blamed Ouya's distribution partner for the delay, saying that the company delivered the systems in May.
"We paid for shipping, yet the deliveries remain incomplete. We know everyone is getting their Ouya, but it is taking longer than we expected," she added.
In the same message, Ouya head of operations Ken Stephens said backers could expect their consoles in 15 to 17 days once they're shipped from Hong Kong.
"Over the past few months, we encountered and conquered many challenges spanning both hardware and software in order to bring the best product we could to market," said Stephens. "We have tried to make sure that the challenges we faced did not impact our early supporters, but unfortunately we came up short."
