Orange UK has published pricing and tariffs for the iPhone 4, in advance of the handset's release next week.
Customers will be able to get the 16GB iPhone 4 for free, but only if they sign up for a £75-a-month contract. The price then rises as the tariffs reduce, up to £169 on a £30-a-month tariff.
The 32GB model will cost £29 on the £75 tariff, rising to £269 on the £30 plan. In both cases, the handset price is more expensive on an 18-month contract.
Orange may court controversy with its decision to describe mobile internet browsing as "unlimited*" on its tariff chart.
Why the asterisk? Because a fair use limit of 750MB a month applies to both Wi-Fi and mobile internet browsing.
Not unlimited, in other words. That's not a surprise or particularly outrageous, but we sense it may be time for operators to give up the ghost (and the asterisks) and stop using the 'unlimited' word when it comes to data.
Orange will also sell the iPhone 4 on a pay-as-you-go basis: £480 for the 16GB model and £570 for the 32GB model. That's 19 quid less than Apple is selling the unlocked version of the handset in both cases.
