Nokia has just announced the Nokia 5230, a lower end S60 5th Edition (Symbian OS v9.4) smartphone, featuring single ARM11-based 434 MHz CPU, 70 MB internal storage memory and microSD memory card slot (up to 16 GB), 3.2" (640x360 pixel) display, 2 Megapixel camera, A-GPS, dual-band WCDMA (HSDPA), quad-band GSM, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP and AVRCP), high-speed USB 2.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack. The phone will be available in three variants: WCDMA 2100/900, 2100/850 and 1900/850. The basic version will cost €149 before taxes, and the "Comes With Music" version will cost €259. To reach this price level, the device will not include WiFi, there will be no memory card included, and the camera is an entry level, low resolution one. While feature-wise this phone won't be a competition killer, the price (for what it gives in exchange, i.e. a fully functional touchscreen, HSDPA smartphone with A-GPS and good music capabilities) surely is a big advantage. Available in six different colours (red, pink, blue, yellow, silver, dark silver), weighing 113 g and measuring 111 x 51.7 x 14.5 mm (78 cc), i.e. almost identically as the 5800 XpressMusic, the device will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2009.
