The iPad is not yet available in Taiwan, and nobody at Apple has given any indication of when it will be, despite having received official approval from the government agency that regulates communications on the island. According to an employee at one Apple retailer, the iPad is being held back until iOS can support the traditional Chinese characters used in Taiwan.
Chin-hsien Lo, deputy director of the technologies administration department at the Taiwan National Communications Commission, announced that both the WiFi only and WiFi+3G iPads received all the necessary certifications. "The NCC has completed the required inspections and the products can now be sold in Taiwan," Lo told The China Post.
