Google’s Nexus 7 tablet outsold Apple’s entire iPad lineup in Japan throughout December.
This is the first time another tablet has dislodged the iPad from the number one spot since the first model’s launch in 2010.
Research from BCN shows that the Asus-made Nexus 7 took 44.4 per cent of the market in December, while Apple managed 40.1 per cent.
The report cites cost as a major factor for Japanese consumers, with the Nexus 7 costing around $100 less than a comparable iPad mini.
Around 3.6 million tablets were sold in Japan during December, nearly three times as much as the same period in 2011.
