Social funding site Kickstarter has got a lot of shit on it. I mean, a huge amount. Want to back a pop-up book about vampire sex? Great, $100 please.
How about a special sticker that will turn your iPhone 3D? All the project needs is $15,000.
But then there are the genuinely cool projects; like the Pebble watch, and the Ouya console, and now the iMpulse game controller.
An increasing number of people think the future of gaming lies with tablets and mobiles, and the creators of iMpulse are no different, but they do have a problem.
The creators said: "Physical controllers give us a level of tactile response and immersive experience that is completely lost on touchscreen… your fingers are just in the way and if they're not sliding off the control surfaces they're getting in the way of the action."
So, they decided to create the world's smallest, wireless Bluetooth controller for smartphones and tablets.
As well as working with the vast majority of titles right out of the box, the iMpulse supports emulators too, which is a nice touch.
The controller has backlit buttons, connects to a key chain (the device is also a key finder) and has a camera remote too.
The iMpulse has already reached its target of $49,999 and at time of writing sits at $77,111, but if you want to get onboard, there's still another 18 days to go.
This is a great idea. A lot of potential mobile gamers are put off by the inadequacies of touchscreen devices, so this could bring a lot more people out from the cold. It's simple. practical and at $30 not outrageously expensive. If another $30 means you'll spend more time playing games on your $500 device, then it's got to be worth it.
