lekiosk, the most successfully monetised iPad app in France – already on one in four iPads, no less - has now launched on Android, bringing the digital newsstand out of beta and into the Google Play store.
The lekiosk app allows users to browse, sample and purchase titles from a rotating, 3D rendered British-style newsstand.
Publishers, including the likes of the BBC, Condè Nast, and Dennis, have already signed up to lekiosk’s offering, meaning that around 100 titles are available to consumers at the time of launch.
lekiosk’s huge success in France is grounded in its use of tablet technology, as well as its innovative model, which allows users to subscribe to a monthly bundle of ten magazines for €10.
The announcement of lekiosk’s arrival on Android follows the firm’s partnership with ASUS, and a successful Series B funding round, which raised $7.1 million from CM-CIC and FSN PME CDC Enterprises in November 2012.
The partnership with ASUS’ line of tablets includes the Nexus 7, the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700, the Transformer Pad TF300 and the MeMO Pad.
lekiosk is now available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store.
