Those who turned on their PC or Mac the moment they woke up this morning with the hope of upgrading their iPhone’s to the latest 3.0 firmware were disappointed, but there’s not long to wait – 6pm (BST) is now the estimated arrival time.
UPDATE: Reports are now pointing to a 3pm rollout. Which is just minutes away! Time will tell.
The OS release comes ahead of the arrival of the brand new iPhone 3GS this Friday at O2 and CarphoneWarehouse stores.
Whilst owners of the current iPhone 3G will have to get used to lacking the new device’s built-in compass, better camera, video recording facilities and all round enhanced performance, 3.0 still offers the lion’s share of new features touted for the 3GS.
Here’s a quick run down of what 3.0 includes:
* Cut, copy and paste for text
* Landscape keyboard for texting, email, notes and Safari
* MMS texting (will count as four of an O2 user’s bundled text messages)
* Enhanced spotlight search for finding content on the iPhone
* Voice memos
* Improved calendar
* Speedier performance and autofill with Safari
* Internet tethering – as long as you pay the extra to O2
* Stereo Bluetooth
* Parental controls
* YouTube logins for synchronised bookmarking
* Peer-to-peer Bluetooth multiplayer
* Microtransactions and subscriptions for games
