US chain Meijer strips $70 from the 16GB wi-fi version.
In December, we reported that the iPad 3 was expected to launch in the first quarter of this year.
Now, rumours are building as Apple Insider says Meijer has cut $70 from the price of the 16GB wi-fi iPad 2, now falling to $429.
A significant move, given that Apple products are famously never reduced without notable events such as Black Friday or Christmas coming up, or alternatively the release of a new device.
Presumably, Meijer's sale is in an attempt to clear stock ahead of the iPad 3's speculated March unveiling.
The tablet is predicted to run LTE and an A6 processor. Additionally, Apple is reportedly auditioning apps to demonstrate at the iPad 3 launch, just as it did last year with the iPad 2 and iMovie.
