Researchers at Intel are reportedly working on a 48-core processor for smartphones and tablets.
However, according to Computer World, it could be as much as five to ten years before these devices are seen in the market.
“I think the desire to move to more natural interfaces to make the interaction much more human-like is really going to drive the computational requirements," Intel’s CTO, Justin Rattner, told Computer World.
"Having large numbers of cores to generate very high performance levels is the most energy efficient way to deliver those performance levels.”
The chip vendor usually works on five to ten years plans, indicating that these chips are a very recent idea and perhaps are reflective of Intel’s state of readiness for the eruption of interest in the tablet category. http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/...ile-cpu/029510
