HTC has revealed the Desire 300, a new entry-level smartphone, and the Desire 601, a smartphone aimed at mid-range users.
The Desire 300 is said by HTC to be designed for browsing on a budget. The phone features a 4.3-inch screen and is powered by a Qualcomm SnapDragon 1Ghz dual-core processor.
HTC’s targeting of the phone at entry-level web surfers includes its inclusion of BlinkFeed, which personalises the user’s home screen with social media updates, customised content and news.
The Desire 601 joins HTC’s mid-range line of products. HTC says that the 601 inherits several features from the HTC One, which it claims has been “crowned as the best phone in the world”.
Like the One, the 601 features HTC’s ‘Zoe’ camera technology, which takes up to 20 photos and a three-second video at once, and simple editing tools. The rear camera itself is five megapixels, while photos are displayed on the 601’s 4.5-inch qHD screen.
Another feature the 601 adopts from the One is ‘BoomSound’. BoomSound incorporates miniature amplifiers into HTC’s smartphones to produce “less distortion than average smartphones.”
The inclusion of BoomSound in the 601 comes alongside HTC’s announcement of the ‘BoomBass’, a wireless Bluetooth subwoofer with a dedicated amplifier that works with BoomSound to allow BoomSound-enabled speakers to produce lower frequency audio.
For the One family, HTC has announced a new colour – ‘Vivid Blue’ – which will arrive in markets during quarter four of 2013.
The Desire 601 will be available in “select markets” across EMEA from September 2013. The Desire 300 and BoomBass subwoofer arrive a month later in October, with the BoomBass found in HTC Accessory stores from the middle of the month.
