South Korean OEM currently rumoured to enhance speed and ability by ten per cent.
Today's post from Phones 4u observes the success of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4 champion, which reached 10m sales in a month, and highlights a number of improvements and tweaks that can make the device a true joy to use.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has already achieved record sales thanks to some great specs and a wealth of software innovations, further cementing the Korean firm as a leading smartphone manufacturer.
There are two versions of the Galaxy S4, and depending on your region, the device will either have a 1.6GHz Exynos 5 octa-core processor, or a 1.9GHz quad-core to keep things running along smoothly.
The decision to launch two variations of the handset didn’t come without its criticisms despite J.K. Shin, head of Samsung Mobile, previously telling buyers that there “isn’t much difference” between the two processors in terms of performance.
But rumour has it that Samsung is currently working on new software, set to be released later this summer, in a bid to enhance the speed and ability of all of its Galaxy S4 devices by a further ten per cent.
Here in the UK, there’s a heap of fantastic Samsung Galaxy S4 deals up for grabs, and many users are now reaping the benefits of the quad-core variant, which currently stands as one of the fastest smartphone processors in the UK. Whether you’re multitasking, watching HD videos or playing highly-intensive games there’s very little lag or stutter.
But the many new software features to come loaded on to the Galaxy S4 have been labelled as “gimmicky” by some industry experts, and can in fact impact the performance of the device. So, here are few handy hints to ensure your Galaxy S4 continues to run without a hitch.
Speed up responsiveness of home button
Double tapping the home button launches S Voice, a great feature that lets users find out the answer to almost any question asked of it as well as performing a range of different functions.
However some tests have found that mapping this feature to the home key causes notable lag and reduce the speed at which the button responds. The device will wait a short while in case you’re going to make a second tap to active S Voice.
To disable the shortcut open up the app, tap Settings and untick the box next to ‘open via the home key’. It’ll certainly make returning back to the home screen a lot more efficient.
Turn off unlock effect feature
The lock screen may look pretty but the “sunshine” unlock animation, which sees a light effect follow the movement of your finger across the lock screen, can affect the speed at which the display comes on after pressing the power button.
To disable this effect go to Settings, tap My Device, press Lock Screen and select None to deactivate the animation all together.
Add widgets to the lock screen
This is a really useful feature that means emails and text messages can be read without having to unlock the device. Although these are switched off by default they can be enabled manually by going to the Settings menu, tapping on My Device, then Lock Screen and selecting the Multiple Widgets option.
Not only does this speed up the rate at which you can access your messages but it will also save you some battery power as you won’t have to unlock the handset every time a new message comes through.
Switch on developer options
This option is great for those who don’t mind sacrificing a few visual enhancements in favour of speed. Developer options give users greater control over the Galaxy S4’s settings, for instance once activated users can set flags for the handset to stay awake while charging and debug the software. The later also allows you to use what is known as the Android Debug Bridge utility to side-load apps.
Although this feature is hidden by default on the Galaxy S4, it can be switched on by tapping Build Number several times. This option can be found in Settings, then More and finally About Device.
With so much going on under the hood it’s not surprising that the Galaxy S4 is prone to bouts of stutter and lag. Hopefully these top tips will go a long to ensure your new device runs smoothly and doesn’t leave you wishing you’d opted for one of the hundreds of other cheap mobile phone contracts also on offer at the moment.
