Search giant briefly confirms version 4.1 will be named after the chewy candy.
It's been a big fortnight in the world of operating systems, with Apple revealing iOS 6, while Microsoft got in on the act with Windows Phone 8.
Not wanting to be left out in the cold, Google leaked an image of its forthcoming Galaxy Nexus phone on Google Play, describing it as 'The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jell...'.
Droid-life managed to capture a screengrab of the image, which was just as well because the info has since been removed from the store.
The sudden appearance and vanishing act has the essence of a publicity stunt, but it's likely an official reveal will take place at the Google I/O event kicking off on June 27th.
