Gizmondo, a handheld gaming system released by Tiger Telematics in 2005, is returning this year according to a new website.
The original handheld wasn't widely available in either the UK or the US and was discontinued within a year. The company received more attention for an executive's ties to organised crime than for the system itself.
A video on the new website touts an "open source environment" as well as a "Gizmondo live marketplace" and "exciting psychic worlds." The promise that players will be able to create their own games suggests that the focus will be on user-created content.
No further details were provided, only that Gizmondo will be rising again in 2008 and will "democratise gaming."
The original Gizmondo had two separate price points depending upon whether or not smart ads were enabled on the handheld. It was sold primarily through Gizmondo's own website.
