BlueStacks's microconsole will merge the mobile markets through virtualisation
The GamePop microconsole will be capable of playing both iOS and Android games, claims BlueStacks CEO Rosen Sharma.
BlueStacks had already revealed the Android gaming capabilities of the subscription-based platform, but the news the device can also play games built for Apple devices is something of a shock.
In an interview with All Things D, Sharma said GamePop uses a virtualisation process called LookingGlass to run iOS games without using a single line of Apple code.
“Developers really like this because it gives them another way to monetise,” said Sharma.
The idea might not be so appealing to Apple, and though BlueStacks was careful to avoid using Apple's code, it's still unclear if the company would seek to block the tech.
