New iPhone app junaio blends social media with augmented reality technology, capitalising on two of the current hot trends in the casual gaming world.
The app (App Store link) is the work of Metaio, and lets users create and place 3D objects, tweets or websites into the real world, while sharing their creations with friends through social networks.
The creation aspect is interesting, because most mobile AR apps have focused on users browsing content created by professional developers, or sourced from existing websites like Wikipedia.
Brands can get involved in junaio too, though. Movie firm Focus Features has already signed up to make characters from its animated flicks 9 and Coraline available on the platform for users to play with.
"With the introduction of junaio, we are giving everyday consumers the ability to utilise and experience augmented reality in combination with location-based content and social interactions," says Metaio CEO Thomas Alt.
