Double Fine's The Cave confirmed for iOS launch

Charming Double Fine adventure The Cave will launch for iOS devices on 3rd October, publisher Sega has announced.It'll cost £2.99/€4.49/$4.99 and be compatible across iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.For those who missed The Cave's release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 earlier this year, it's a classic-style adventure game helmed by Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert.Speaking to Eurogamer before the game's initial release, Gilbert explained he was looking "really, really closely" at an iOS port - the downloadable title's 2D side-scrolling environments and puzzle-fueled gameplay seemed a neat fit at the time. Both elements are reminiscent of some of the genre's classics and notably some of Gilbert's own library of launches."Its frustrations are fleeting but with core gameplay that struggles to be as clever and witty as the script, it never quite manages to bring together its best features in a truly satisfying way," Dan Whitehead wrote in Eurogamer's cautiously optimistic The Cave review."Plunge into The Cave and you'll definitely have fun finding your way out. It's just a shame it doesn't go deeper."
