LG’s new mini tablet blurs the line between phones, tablets and phablets even further than it already is.
The LG G Pad 8.3, which weighs less than a pound and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, will be released equipped with 16GB of memory and 2GB of RAM.
There will also be a 1.3MP front facing camera and a 5MP one on the back.
Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics mobile communication company, said: “Complementing our G series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG’s premium lineup consisting of our most cutting edge devices.”
The 8-inch gadget was announced on LG’s blog yesterday and will be officially debuted during next week's IFA 2013 in Berlin.
The pocket device is the answer to an apparent consumer demand for a smaller tablet, that connects between multiple devices, as well as other manufacturers smartphones and tablets using Jelly Bean OS.
The release date and price are currently unclear, but introduction of the device is expected initially into North America, Europe and Asia during the fourth quarter of this year.
Dr Park continued: “Our G Pad is just another example of LG delivering devices with the unique selling points consumers around the world will appreciate.”
Earlier this year, LG reported record smartphone sales of 10.3 million units during the first quarter of 2013, becoming the world’s third largest mobile manufacturer.
