52 per cent of consumers say mobile sites disappoint

Women generally happier with their mobile brand experience
36 per cent say that lack of functionality on mobile sites and apps is their main usability issue, reports Eptica.
52 per cent of UK consumers revealed that over half of sites they visited on their mobile weren’t optimised for that platform, making it difficult to interact with companies.
It turns out that women are more satisfied with their mobile experience – with 54 per cent saying that the sites they accessed were actually optimised for a mobile compared to 42 per cent of men.
However 38 per cent of women did say that bad optimisation for smaller screens was the number one issue with mobile usability, whereas functionality was the leading bug-bare for 37 per cent of men.
Netbiscuits recently revealed that brands actually ignore 52 per cent of device types when developing for a mobile.
Paul Barnes, VP operations with Eptica UK, said: “Over half of us have smartphones, and tablet use is now mainstream, but it seems that many brands are lagging behind consumer expectations.”
Another issue for 34 per cent of mobile consumers was slow loading speeds. Google found that if a mobile site takes longer than a second to load visitors lose interest – even though the average response time is seven seconds.
Barnes continued: “The public demand the same experience on their mobile device as on their PC, but are being failed by substandard sites that are slow to load and don’t fit smaller screens. Many of these are basic issues that companies need to sort out before they lose customers to their rivals.”
