Huge and not unsurprising install figures for the catch-up TV product.
The Guardian has reported that 500,000 of these downloads were by users who had never installed the app before, which should delight the Beeb.
The launch of apps for iOS this year gave users a more friendly option for viewing (previously the option was a mobile site).
Daniel Danker, the broadcaster's general manager of programmes and on demand, said: "Last week, 20 per cent of all requests on iPhone were on 3G. That's amazing in such a short period of time. And yet when we look at the audience feedback, nobody has really reported streaming problems over 3G."
Overall, it's been a big year for the iPlayer viewing on mobile and tablet. The Guardian also reported that, in October, 16.5m programmes were watched on these devices, that's up 129 per cent year-on-year. Overall, ten per cent of all viewing is on mobile devices.
It's now possible there have been 3m overall downloads for the mobile app in the UK, with 1.5m times on iPad and 1.2m times on Android.
