'Our future phones will have 64-bit processors too,' says Samsung

Samsung has announced that its future phones will have 64-bit processing capability, following Apple’s reveal of the 64-bit iPhone 5S.
Apple’s recently announced smartphone will run on its ARM-based A7 processor, which will support 64-bit apps, including graphically intensive games and Apple’s native apps, which have been rebuilt to run on the platform.
“Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality,” Shin Jong-kyun, Samsung’s mobile business chief, told The Korea Times.
Shin also told The Korea Times that Samsung would be concentrating on efforts in Chinese and Japanese markets, noting that “Apple [also] intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as Japan.”
As of the end of Q2 2013, Samsung had the largest market share in China with 19.4 per cent of the market. Apple had a 4.3 per cent share.
Despite the competition between the two companies, however, The Korea Times reports that “Samsung is hoping to strike a comprehensive cross-licensing deal with Apple, as Samsung officials think the huge gap in smartphone share as shares means increased leverage on negotiations.”
Some observers have seen Apple’s announcement of the cheaper iPhone 5C model as an attempt to target the Chinese market, where the prices of previous iPhones may have put off potential customers.
